From Ithaca, New York to Portland, Oregon and back by rail: six trains in eleven days. This travelog was written after the fact. I hadn't thought of doing this until our adventure on the California Zephyr, so it was written from memory during the first few days we were home. The post dates are nonsense and are there only to make the posts display from oldest first instead of newest first.

27Aug11: The Lake Shore Limited: Day 2 (Rail Day 11)
During the night we passed through Indiana, so I never saw any of that state. At 5 in the morning, when I got up, we were still in Ohio, though we soon crossed over into Pennsylvania. We arrived in Rochester around 10:30 in the morning, about half an hour behind schedule, were we de-trained and ended our railroad adventure. Across the street at the bus station we asked for tickets to Ithaca and were told that the bus would leave in 10 minutes and that was the last bus for the day, all other buses to Ithaca were canceled due to Irene. It's a good thing the Lake Shore Limited wasn't any later! Carol says she would like to wait a while before embarking on our next train trip, but she is enjoying sorting and organizing all the photos we took on this trip.
